Jessamyn Henschel is a board-certified licensed creative arts therapist. She has worked in a variety of settings with a variety of people, including: court-involved youth in jail, on probation, and in community facilities; adults hospitalized in inpatient psychiatry; and outpatient settings for children, families, and adults of varying diagnoses and presenting issues. Most recently, she served as a Senior Clinician at an outpatient clinic, where she provided individual, group, and family therapy for people dealing with various diagnoses and risk levels, and supervised interns working toward their graduate degrees.
Jessamyn enjoys working with people of all ages and needs, but particularly specializes in working with teens and young adults dealing with anxiety and mood disorders, body image and self-esteem issues, grief, life transitions, burnout, and family conflict. Her approach is collaborative, non-hierarchical, relational, and humanistic. Jessamyn utilizes CBT, DBT, MI, emotion-focused techniques, mindfulness techniques, trauma-informed techniques, and creative arts techniques. Additionally, Jessamyn is LGBTQIA+ affirming, and pulls influence from restorative-justice tenets into her work. She believes that you, the client, are the expert of yourself and your inner world, and she is here to support and guide you toward living your best life.
Although Jessamyn’s training is as an art therapist, she is extensively trained in talk therapy techniques. If making art is not your preference, Jessamyn will meet you where ever your needs lie. Additionally, creativity and the arts can each look a number of different ways, and can be tailored according to each individual.
Seeking therapy can be a challenging task, and taking these first steps is worth celebrating yourself. Jessamyn looks forward to accompanying you on your mental health and wellness journey. She warmly welcomes you to reach out to see if you feel like a good fit for services together.
